Pre-Treatment Preparation
Skin is cleansed thoroughly. If desired, topical numbing is applied 30-45 minutes before treatment although most patients do not need it. Protective eyewear is provided.

Traditional CO2 lasers ablate (vaporize) skin layers causing significant damage and 1-2 weeks of recovery. CoolPeel® delivers short, rapid pulses that remove damaged surface skin without excessive heat buildup, resulting in only 2-3 days of downtime while still achieving dramatic resurfacing results.
Does it hurt?
We apply topical numbing cream before treatment. During the procedure, you’ll feel warmth and prickling. Most patients tolerate it well. After treatment, skin feels like a moderate sunburn for 1-2 days.
Am I a candidate if I have darker skin?
CoolPeel® is best suited for lighter skin tones (Fitzpatrick types I-III). Those with darker skin have higher risk of hyperpigmentation with CO2 lasers and may be better candidates for RF treatments like MATRIX PRO or Sublative. Dr. Lanham will assess your skin type during consultation.
How many treatments will I need?
Many patients achieve significant improvement with just 1 treatment. Some opt for a second session 3-6 months later for enhanced results. This is far fewer treatments than non-ablative options.
What's the downtime really like?
Days 1-2: Moderate redness and swelling, like a sunburn. Days 3-5: Peeling and flaking. Week 1: Pinkness fading, fresh skin emerging. Most patients return to work with makeup by days 4-5. Avoid sun and strenuous activity for 1 week.
Can I wear makeup during recovery?
No makeup for the first 24-48 hours. Once peeling begins (day 3-4), you can apply mineral makeup gently. Full makeup can resume once peeling completes (around day 5-7).
When will I see results?
You’ll see dramatic texture improvement and smoother skin within 1-2 weeks once peeling completes. Wrinkle reduction and firmness continue improving over 3-6 months as collagen remodels.
How long do results last?
CoolPeel® delivers long-lasting results—often several years with proper skincare and sun protection. The collagen you build is permanent tissue, though aging continues over time.
Can I combine CoolPeel® with other treatments?
Yes, but timing is important. CoolPeel® is often combined with neurotoxins and fillers, but these are typically done 2-4 weeks before or after CoolPeel® to allow for proper healing.
What should I avoid before and after treatment?
Before: Avoid retinoids, exfoliants, and sun exposure for 1 week. After: No sun exposure for 2 weeks minimum. Avoid harsh products, retinoids, and exfoliants for 2 weeks. Use gentle cleanser, healing ointment, and SPF 50+ daily.
